31. Maumars – A term referring to Maurice and Maria, Leaders of Cyclos.

32. Metasphere – A powerful, invisible shield that envelops each Collective, functioning as an additional atmospheric layer unique to magi. It is formed and sustained by the collective energy of at least 10,000 magi practicing translation daily. Within the Metasphere, translation requires significantly less energy, as magi can draw from the shared power of the entire Collective. This makes complex translations safer and more efficient.

The Metasphere not only enhances magical abilities but also serves as a protective barrier, shielding magi from external threats while keeping their existence hidden.

The strength and stability of a Collective depend on the number of magi contributing to the Metasphere, making large Collectives like Cyclos nearly impenetrable.

33. Nemecis – The magi term for humans, referring to non-magical creatures (NMC’s).

38. Portal – A Portal is a magical gateway created through translation, allowing instant travel from one location to another without any time difference. Portals vary in function and accessibility, each serving distinct purposes within the Magi World.

Types of Portals

  • Red Portals – Standing portals, fixed and one-way. They allow travel to a location but do not permit a return through the same portal. These are commonly found within the Universitas, enabling magi to travel between buildings or even into the Human World.

  • Green Portals – Personal portals, created individually by magi. Unlike standing portals, they allow free movement in both directions, offering complete control over destination and return. Navigation and clearance require the use of green drops on a Nexus.
  • Blue Portals – Extremely rare time-travel portals. Unlike spatial portals, blue portals manipulate time, allowing movement through different points in history. Due to their immense power, they require a special license, which magi are not eligible to obtain until after their first Cycle (100 years).

39. Radicals – a faction of the Resistants who view their methods as too soft and oppose the Great Exposure using a nuclear weapon, the Amplifier.

40. Recruiter – Recruiters are tasked with identifying the specific skill sets needed by magi and overseeing the entire educational program at the Universitas. They have the authority to decide who teaches, where, and what is taught, as well as the responsibility of staffing the Universitas. In a culture that prizes education above all else, the role of Recruiter is one of the most esteemed professions in the magi world.

41. Resistants – a group of magi who oppose the Great Exposure.

42. Scola – The educational institution within the Spring Palace, located in the upper right corner of the Universitas, adjacent to the Winter Palace. It serves as the primary school for young magi, where children under sixteen receive formal education and translation training.

44. Skindo – A compact, five-pronged hand weapon exclusive to the Offensives of Cyclos, imbued with their own translation. When summoned, it emerges from the intricate tattoo sleeve of its wielder.

45. Specialist – A highly skilled magus or maga with expertise in translation and deep knowledge of various disciplines. Specialists are rare, emerging only once every few cycles. They possess diplomatic immunity, thus have automatic clearance in every Collective, allowing them to bypass even the most secure Layers of Protection. Specialists are considered the best of the best of their extensive understanding of how and why things work. Translation comes solely from within—rooted in their own knowledge—making them exceptionally versatile and powerful.

46. Sphere – See Metasphere.

47. Touchstone – The Touchstone is a massive clock-like monument located in the center of the Grand Hall within the Fall Palace. It serves as a magical navigation tool, helping magi orient themselves within the Universitas and beyond. By touching it, magi can determine their destination and receive guidance on the best path to take. It is an essential feature for newcomers and students, ensuring they can navigate the vast and complex structures of the Universitas with ease.

48. Translation / Translated – Magic. The act of using magic (e.g., I translated = I used magic).

Translation is the fundamental act of channeling emotion into energy, allowing magi to manifest their will into reality. It is not merely casting magic but rather an expression of one's inner self, shaped by knowledge, intent, and emotional intensity.

A magus does not simply summon an object; they translate their understanding and emotions into existence. For example, translating a car requires not just the desire for a vehicle but also knowledge of its structure, materials, and fuel type. The more a magus understands about what they wish to create, the more precise and controlled their translation becomes.

Because translation is deeply tied to emotion, education and training are essential. Magi spend much of their lives learning how to refine and control their abilities, ensuring their translations are both effective and safe.

Ultimately, translation is both an art and a discipline, where power is dictated by knowledge, control, and emotional depth.

49. True Bond – an absolute form of telepathy between two individuals in which all thoughts and emotions are shared, along with translation; it is the only form of marriage recognized among magi. Forming multiple bonds is theoretically possible, though rare.

50. United Chiefs – A military force of fifteen of the most powerful Offensives worldwide, holding supreme authority over all Offensives.

51. Universitas – The primary educational institution of Cyclos, where magi are trained in their abilities. It consists of four wings: Winter Palace, Summer Palace, Spring Palace, and Fall Palace.

  • Spring Palace houses the Scola, where all magi children are schooled until they turn 16.
  • Summer Palace contains the Academy, where trainees are divided and trained as Offensives, Defensives, or Healers.
  • Winter Palace serves as the residential wing, where the dorms are located.
  • Fall Palace serves as the entry point to the common areas and the Grand Hall. The Touchstone, located in the Grand Hall, helps magi navigate the Universitas and find where they need to go.
